MOBILE, AL – Theresa Merryman, Regional Manager, Region 5, of AHEPA Management Company, has been named to the Board of Directors of SAHMA, The Southeastern Affordable Housing Management Association.
Ms. Merryman has been appointed to a three-year term as Director for the State of Alabama. In this capacity, she will be responsible for the overall development and direction of the state organization including involvement in meetings with HUD Administration that pertain to regulatory topics and education for the affordable housing industry. The State Director communicates with committees responsible for the annual SAHMA Alabama Meeting that provides education and resources for employees and management companies in affordable housing.
As Regional Manager at AHEPA Management Company, Merryman is responsible for oversight of 13 senior affordable apartment communities throughout Alabama and Florida including manager supervision and training, property administration, HUD compliance, property maintenance and standards, tenant selection and rent-up, budgets, financials and more.
Ms. Merryman joined AHEPA Management Company in 2011 as a Property Manager in Mobile, AL and was promoted to Area Manager in 2014. In 2016 she was promoted to Regional Manager.
Merryman earned a Business degree in Accounting from 20th Century College in Mobile, AL. Her industry activities include serving on the SAHMA Membership Committee and the annual SAHMA Alabama Meeting Planning Committee. Ms. Merryman resides in Mobile.
The Southeastern Affordable Housing Management Association, is part of a network of regional affordable housing management associations (AHMAs) that work very closely with the National Affordable Housing Management Association (NAHMA) located in Alexandria, VA. SAHMA is a membership organization of owners and managers of affordable multifamily housing in the Southeast, and champions the preservation of the nation’s supply of affordable housing. The group provides its members with education and training through events, newsletters and information resources, notification of industry legislative/regulatory changes, and promote a standard of excellence in the management of affordable housing. SAHMA NAHMA has strong ties to key personnel on Capitol Hill, at NCSHA and with HUD, Rural Housing and Senior Housing staff.
